The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is investigating a four-alarm fire that ripped through a business and spread to apartments late Friday night in Jersey City, officials said.
The Jersey City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 3507 Kennedy Boulevard just before 11 p.m. Friday, officials said.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze and were treated at Jersey City Medical Center. Twenty-six residents were displaced from their homes as a result of the fire, according to officials.
Red Cross of New Jersey said it was helping nine families with temporary lodging and other necessities.
Firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the building when they arrived at the scene, authorities said.
The fire is believed to have started in a business on the ground floor and quickly spread to neighboring residential units, according to authorities.
The Jersey City Fire Department and Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force are investigating the cause of the fire, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact officials at 201-915-1345 or contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office confidential tip line.
